Traditionally, the strategic assessment of mergers, acquisitions and major change programmes concentrates far less on the human resource issues and more on the tangible business areas - financial, business advantages, services/product enhancements, geographical coverage or marketing capability etc. However, surveys consistently show that significant numbers of programmes fail to meet expected financial targets for reasons involving inadequate human resource management.
